The Urban task is that the new building must stand out from the ordinary immediate environment where it will be located; it should have a strong effect over who drives along or simply strolls along it. The reduced footprint is the starting moment for the building expansion upwards and form a well a comfortable entrance zone and an open exhibition of the museum centre.
The square has links with temporary exhibition spaces and art galleries, both can be enlarged by reducing public spaces. The access to the public square is made through a platform of steps and ramps, where exhibition pieces could be exposed, creating a trigger for people. The exhibition starts already outside: transparent volumes of outstanding boxes articulated horizontally and vertically, make of the building an extrovert. All those features inform visitors about multifunctional features of the museum and facilitate their outside navigation.
The façade interacts with the surroundings, giving a glance of what happens in the interior of the building. The organization of the building’s interiors does not fully follow the originally suggested program but we deliver instead a sequence of different spaces, or interior worlds, that are integrated in one long public walk from the entry to the congress halls on the top. The museum intertwines the public areas with the closed ones like the laboratory spaces, thus creating visual and functional contact points between different programs and different people. The building therefore becomes a rich experience that pushes the user to explore it all until the end.
